SOVEREIGN 17 - #1 of the 10 most iconic Sunseekers ever made
(Motorboat and Yachting July 2020)
For serious aficionados of classic motor boats, Sunseekers and James Bond.
This is the boat that launched Robert Braithwaite and his friend John Macklin, with their brand Poole Powerboats to become the internationally recognised luxury yacht builder Sunseeker.
"Now acknowledged as the very first Sunseeker" (Motorboat and Yachting July 2020), Robert Braithwaite CBE (Sunseekers founder) saw its potential and the 17 foot Sovereign was the start of Sunseeker we know today.
Later Robert Braithwaite's 40m Sunseeker carried a Sovereign 17 #033 'Crazy Girl' which featured in the Bond movie 'Quantum of Solace' (2008) as a sports tender where Robert featured in a cameo role early on in the film as the boat s Skipper.
In a later scene, Bond (played by Daniel Craig) also takes a ride in the Sunseeker 17 en route to the Tuscan villa of his supposed ally, Mathis. Of course, it s by no means the grandest Sunseeker to appear in a Bond film and there are no outlandish modifications to enjoy, but arguably, no model has been more classically Bond than this, it s the relatively modest Sunseeker Sovereign 17 from Quantum of Solace that really hits the spot.
This boat 'Mistral' is #032 is a very rare garage find indeed, a totally original boat, in the same family since 1984 and owned by a family friend prior to that.
